Wolfgang Shäuble expected in Athens on Thursday

German Minister of Finance, Wolfgang Shäuble, will be visiting Athens on Thursday, July 18th. According to his statements to “Bild” newspaper he dismisses the eventuality of a Greek debt restructuring. German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, seems to be of the same opinion.

W. Shäuble will meet with Greek Prime Minister, Antonis Samaras, the government’s vice-president, Evangelos Venizelos, the Minister of Finance, Yannis Stournaras and the Minister of Administrative Reform and e-Governance, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

According to the German Minister of Finance representative, Mr. Shäuble will express the German government’s intention to support fiscal consolidation and reforms in Greece.

A few days prior to the German Finance Minister visit to Greece, Angela Merkel referred to the issue of civil servants dismissals and pointed out that the Greek government is expected to meet with great adversities in the effort to implement the programme.
